Mother Nature had her way once again in Gainesville as Friday night’s GHS and Buchholz football game at Citizens Field ended early.
A downpour in the first half led to the game being suspended after the officials determined the field was unplayable.
Buchholz led GHS 21-7 early in the second quarter when play was halted.
The Bobcats (3-3) and the Hurricanes (4-1) will resume their suspended game at 6 p.m. on Monday at Citizens Field.
A light rain got much worse as the game progressed in the first half.
Buchholz received the opening kick and marched 58 yards on only four plays, capping the drive with a 10-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Trace Johnson to junior wide receiver Keil McGriff just under two minutes into the game.

However, GHS answered on a busted coverage on their first play from scrimmage.
Junior wide receiver Aric Welch was wide open a good 25 yards downfield and scored on an 87-yard touchdown pass from Gainesville quarterback Nelson Tambling down the right sideline to tie the game at 7-7.
The Bobcats answered with a 70-yard drive and on 3rd-and-goal at the 1-yard line, sophomore running back Jasiah Powell ran it in for the go-ahead touchdown and a 14-7 lead.
But the conditions worsened, and on Gainesville’s next possession, the ball slipped out of Tambling’s hand on a scramble.
Wisconsin commit Nick Clayton recovered for the Bobcats at the GHS 18-yard line.
On the next play, junior Justin Williams raced up the middle for the score to give Buchholz a 21-7 advantage late in the first quarter.
Despite the heavy rain, Buchholz was able to move the ball inside the Hurricanes’ 40-yard line early in the second quarter when play was stopped and the game was ultimately postponed.
