
Last week at the FHSAA Class 1A-Region 2 meet at Mount Dora Christian, the Oak Hall girls and boys track and field teams finished in the top five.
The Lady Eagles had a runner-up finish with a score of 76 points behind regional champion Holy Trinity (Melbourne) with a score of 96.
While there were no individual titles for the Oak Hall girls, the 4×800-meter relay team of senior Eliana Eisner, freshman Valeria Beaver, senior Mackenzie Klein and sophomore Estella Collante finished first with a time of 9 minutes, 40.39 seconds.
The foursome also finished second in the 4×400 relay (4:07.52), while the 4×100 relay team of seventh-grader Adele Zarrinpar, senior Sri Lanka Richardson, sophomore Kyleigh Lewis and junior Angelina Forest, finished fifth (51.42).
Among the individual performances, Richardson finished third in the long jump with a leap of 5.00 meters (16 feet, 5 inches). She also finished fifth in the 100-meter dash (12.75).
Oak Hall also had four of the top six finishers in the 800.
Collante finished second (2:18.03) and Klein (2:20.64) was third, while Beaver (2:21.66) and Eisner (2:22.8) finished fifth and sixth, respectively.
Klein (5:19.34) and freshman Lola Murfee (5:24.7) placed third and fourth in the 1600.
Murfee also finished fifth (12:02.5) in the 3200.
Senior Bella Dyrkolbotn finished sixth (10.20m) in the shot put competition.
The Oak Hall boys just missed being a runner-up, finishing third with a score of 79 behind overall winner Holy Trinity (90) and just a half a point behind Foundation Academy (79.5) for second place.
The 4×400 relay team of junior Daniel Grow, junior Briggs Copeland, sophomore Benjamin Gallogly and senior Quinten Dragstedt finished No. 1 with a time of 3:28.78, while the 4×800 relay team of sophomore Benjamin Gallogly, junior Grant Curtis, senior Quinten Dragstedt and junior Peter Peloso finished second (8:04.74).
Grow, who was sixth in the 110 hurdles (16.59) and seventh in the 400 hurdles (01:02.35), took fifth in the high jump (1.77m/5′ 9.75″).
Junior Dakota Brower finished fourth in the triple jump (12.68m/41′ 7.25″) and also won an individual title in the 400 with a time of 49.13.
He also finished third in the 200 (22.27) and fourth in the 100 (10.90).
Peloso finished fourth in the 800 with a time of 01:56.5, while Dragstedt was second in the 1600 (4:29.34).
Gallogly, Curtis, and junior Phillip Peddie finished fourth through sixth, respectively, in the 3200.
“I’m tremendously proud of both the girls’ and boys’ programs at regionals,” said Oak Hall coach Edwin McTureous. “I couldn’t have asked for more.”
Both teams hope to parlay their regional performances into another high placement at this Wednesday’s FHSAA Class 1A Track and Field State Championships at Hodges Stadium on the University of North Florida campus in Jacksonville.
“We’re thrilled to compete at State this Wednesday, determined to give our all and leave nothing behind,” McTureous said.
