Last week the Oak Hall School girls and boys cross country teams won district titles, extending the streak to 14 in a row for the girls and the sixth straight for the boys.
On Thursday, their legacy continued as both teams won regional titles.
The Lady Eagles finished with 40 points, just ahead of Master’s Academy (Oviedo) which finished with a score of 55, to win the Class 1A-Region 2 title.
Branford finished ninth, while P.K. Yonge, Chiefland and Bell finished 12th, 14th and 15th, respectively.
The Lady Eagles, who advanced to their 23rd straight state championship, had two top five finishers in the 5K race.
Mackenzie Klein finished fourth overall with a time of 19:10.7, while Lola Murfee was fifth with a time of 19:39.0.
Branford’s Anna Moore (19:39.3) finished sixth, while Oak Hall’s Valeria Beaver (20:09.4) ended up 10th.
On the boys side, the Eagles finished first with a score of 45, followed by Holy Trinity (63) at No. 2 and No. 3 St. Francis Catholic Academy (131).
Individually, Sam Stone of St. Francis Catholic finished third with a time of 16:27.8, followed by Quinten Dragstedt at No. 4 with a time of 16:31.1.
It marked the 11th straight year that the boys program had advanced to the state tournament.
“Winning a regional championship is never easy and I am very proud of both teams today,” said Oak Hall cross country coach Edwin McTureous. “Their dedication and hard work since June is paying off. We will enjoy this today and start getting ready for state tomorrow, which is always the ultimate goal.”
