Chancie Vice, who led the Gainesville High volleyball team to back-to-back 20-win seasons, has been named the new co-head coach at P.K. Yonge.

“I am thrilled to join a supportive administration that prioritizes growing the game of volleyball in our area,” said Vice, who led GHS to its first district title in 12 years last October.

Last year, Vice was named the Mainstreet Daily News Coach of the Year for big schools after leading GHS (20-8) to the second round of the Class 6A state playoffs.

The ‘Canes won 26 consecutive sets midseason and went 19 straight games without dropping a set at home for the first time in 20 years.

“P.K. Yonge considers ourselves especially fortunate to secure the talents of Coach Vice to lead our volleyball program,” said Brian K. Marchman, P.K. Yonge director and superintendent. “Her record of success in building a successful program and developing student-athletes speaks for itself. We’re thrilled to have Coach Vice at the Blue Wave volleyball helm.”

Vice, who developed three Division 1 signees (USC, Columbia and Mercer), had a record of 67-33 in four seasons at GHS and led the Hurricanes to four straight playoff appearances.

She was the winningest coach in the last decade for the GHS volleyball program.

“Adding Coach Vice is another chance for us to prove our commitment to the holistic development of our student-athletes,” said P.K. Yonge Athletics Director Valerie Flournoy. “Coach Vice has a proven track record in the area and amongst the state. We are all eager to have Coach Vice work with all of the student-athletes in the Blue Wave program.”

In 2022, despite several team injuries, GHS (20-8) won 20 games for the first time in 18 years.

“P.K. Yonge’s commitment to athletic and academic excellence aligns perfectly with my coaching philosophy,” Vice said. “I look forward to developing our players skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship as we build a successful volleyball program.”

Vice will co-coach the P.K. Yonge team that finished 12-12 under head coach Enrique Wiseman, who led the Blue Wave to the first round of the Class 3A state playoffs. Wiseman will stay on to share the head coaching responsibilities with Vice.

“I am incredibly excited to join forces with Enrique at P.K. Yonge,” Vice said. “Our combined expertise and passion for the game will undoubtedly elevate the program to new heights. Together, we are committed to fostering a culture of excellence, teamwork and growth, ensuring our athletes reach their fullest potential both on and off the court.”

In 2023, Vice swept P.K. Yonge, extending the streak to seven in a row against the Blue Wave.

P.K. Yonge will open the regular season at Trinity Catholic (Ocala) on Thursday.

Editor’s note: Vice will co-coach with former P.K. Yonge head coach Enrique Wiseman.
