On Sept. 8, the Oak Hall football team set a school scoring record with a 70-14 win against Seven Rivers Christian (Lecanto).
Quarterback Dakota Brower only threw three passes and completed all three for 77 yards and a score, along with 98 yards rushing and a pair of touchdowns on the ground in the record-setting win.
But last Friday, Sept. 29, the junior topped that performance as the Eagles broke their scoring record with a 74-32 win at home against Eagle’s View (Jacksonville).
Brower finished with 267 yards of total offense and four touchdowns in just one half of football.
He has been recognized as this week’s Athlete of the Week for his accomplishments.
“Dakota is an incredible athlete at all three phases of the game,” said Oak Hall football coach R.J. Fuhr. “Whether he is throwing or running the football, making plays at free safety or kicking multiple field goals, extra points and touchbacks on kickoffs, he is a huge difference maker.”
Brower rushed six times for 116 yards and two touchdowns and he was 5-for-9 passing for 151 yards and two TDs through the air. He also had an interception on defense and three kickoffs in the endzone for touchbacks.
“In all my years of coaching multiple sports, I have coached some great athletes but I have to say he is the most complete football player and one of if not the best athlete I’ve ever coached,” Fuhr said. “He can literally play three to four different positions at the next level. Some college is going to get very lucky with getting him.”
He becomes the sixth athlete to be selected for the weekly award.
Last week’s winner was Gainesville quarterback Kane Smith, who threw for three touchdowns and rushed for another as GHS ended its 15-game losing streak with a 49-21 win over Santa Fe (Alachua) at Citizens Field on Sept. 22.
Other winners include Myles Graham of the Buchholz football team, Hawthorne wide receiver Alvon Isaac, Chiefland running back Osten Jones, and Newberry volleyball player Hailey Tharp.
