SIMEDHealth is a multi-specialty physician group with locations in Gainesville, Ocala, Lady Lake, Chiefland, High Springs and Lake City. Established in 1987, the group specializes in various medical fields such as primary care, allergy and asthma, urgent care, neurology and more.
Current CEO and physician, Dr. Daniel Duncanson, says what makes the company unique is that it is driven to provide value-based care.
“We’ve been doing value-based care for over 10 years,” Duncanson said. “We’re showing you can provide quality care in a patient satisfying way and actually lower the total cost of care.”
SIMEDHealth is independently owned, which means it is privately owned by the physicians that practice there, unlike other health systems. Provider-owned clinics offer a more personalized, value-based experience.
“Our doctors are here for their careers. They live in our neighborhoods, live in our communities and are going to events with our patients. They are literally invested in the health of our patients.”
Essentially, the economy that SIMEDHealth creates stays in the North Central Florida region.
The native Floridian CEO took an interest in the medical field at a young age. He attended Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, then continued medical school at University of South Florida in Tampa. After finishing his residency at University of Florida, Duncanson practiced in Gainesville before joining SIMEDHealth in 2003 as an internal medicine physician.
Growing up with a business mindset, Duncanson was inclined to take on the role of CEO when it came open.
With over 70 physicians, 100 providers and a new
location in High Springs, SIMEDHealth is continuing to grow. Duncanson recognizes the need to continue to mold and adapt to the environment.
“We’re not afraid of change,” Duncanson said. “The way healthcare is now is not how it’s going to be 10 years from now.”
SIMEDHealth participated in the Collaborative for Performance Excellence with the American Medical Group Association. From 2019 through 2021, the collaborative tracked our patient population between the ages of 50-75 years to see whether appropriate colorectal cancer screening was performed. By the end of the collaborative, they had achieved the 80% screening rate goal as established by the American Cancer Society.
SIMEDHealth also offers on site physical therapy, labs, sleep studies and radiology. Having these services on site improves patient compliance and makes it easier for patients.
SIMEDHealth also leads the way for full service occupational and urgent care clinics around North Central Florida.
