The University of Florida announced that it will start its second phase in safety enforcement on vehicles blocking restricted areas across campus starting July 10.

According to a release sent Thursday, the UF Office of the Vice President for Business Affairs called on the campus community in March to avoid parking vehicles that blocked sidewalk and bike lane access and other restricted areas, including grass.

“This behavior has been interfering with accessibility for persons with disabilities, pedestrians, and cyclists and risking their safety. Additionally, improperly parked vehicles may obstruct or delay first responders during an emergency,” the UF release stated.

A recent review regarding vehicular movement around campus revealed continued violations.

On Monday, the UF Transportation and Parking Services (TAPS) will start placing a notice on university and department vehicles not complying with safety regulations to help correct unsafe behaviors.

Starting July 31, vehicles violating campus parking regulations will be cited. This will include university-owned delivery and service vehicles and golf carts. Departments or colleges connected to the cited vehicle will receive an email from TAPS. The documented parking offenses will allow departments to address the citations internally.
