Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said rescue crews were making a “Herculean” effort in the state on Friday.
He said they went door-to-door to over 3,000 homes in the areas hardest hit by Hurricane Ian. Florida emergency management director Kevin Guthrie said responders have prioritized hasty searches with emergency rescues and initial assessments.
Two additional waves of searches will follow. The storm initially left over 2½ million people without power.
What about South Carolina? Sheets of wind and rain tore down power lines and trees and left many areas of Charleston’s downtown peninsula flooded on Friday. The storm washed away four piers along the coast, including two at Myrtle Beach.
