Semi crashes, catches fire on I-10 in Suwannee County

A tractor-trailer tire blowout on Interstate 10 at exit 283 in Suwannee County led to the vehicle catching fire and stopping westbound traffic Tuesday morning.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) report, a 58-year-old Jacksonville man was driving the tractor-trailer westbound on I-10 at 9 a.m. when the left steer tire blew out just west of the 283 exit. The vehicle veered left and struck a guardrail before traveling across both westbound lanes and stopped on the north shoulder.

The driver exited the vehicle before the tractor – loaded with cardboard – caught fire.

Suwannee Fire Rescue responded to the scene and, as of 10:45 a.m., the outside westbound lane on I-10 is closed.
