School bus with 24 children strikes road debris in Columbia County

Two Alachua County Public School buses were involved in collisions that left four injured Tuesday morning.

A Suwannee County school bus carrying 24 students struck a water heater on US Highway 27 between Fort White and High Springs on Tuesday morning.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) release, a 36-year-old Lake Butler man was driving a pickup and towing a trailer northbound on US Hwy 27 south of SW Bobcat Drive in Columbia County at 9:20 a.m. on Tuesday when a water heater fell off the trailer.

A 55-year-old Branford man was driving the school bus south on US Hwy 27 and steered right to avoid the water heater, but the bus struck the object with its front left tire.

No injuries were reported with either driver, the 24 children on the school bus, or the 69-year-old Lake Butler man riding in the pickup truck.
