Florida Governor Ron DeSantis posted a video on his official Facebook page announcing the opening of hair salons and barber shops in Florida this Monday. In a short announcement, J Henry, owner of J Henry’s Barber Shop in downtown Orlando, and a friend of DeSantis, introduced himself and said he is ready to “Get back to work and make some money.
“We want to be safe and continue to wear our gloves, wear our masks, book by appointments and continue to keep the community safe.
“I know everyone is happy to come out and support the barbershop and we want to continue to keep one thing in mind: safety is always first,” Henry said.
Henry complimented the governor on his leadership and said, “I’m very excited and let’s look forward to opening on Monday.”
DeSantis gave an update Friday May 8th from the FITTEAM Ballpark of the Palm Beaches.
There were 361 new resident cases out of about 20,000 test results reported on May 8th which is 1.91% statewide, the lowest since the pandemic began,” DeSantis said.
Florida as a state has met the criteria for opening according to White House guidelines, but DeSantis said the trends in Miami-Dade, Palm Beach and Broward counties translate to a slower opening as they transition to Phase 1.
“Just because you go to Phase 1 doesn’t mean the disease goes away,” DeSantis said about how the population needs to continue to protect the vulnerable and continue practicing CDC guidelines to limit the spread of COVID-19.
