Newberry woman, 63, dies in 2-vehicle crash south of Gainesville

A 63-year-old Newberry woman died Monday morning when she was hit by an SUV turning onto State Road 121 (SW Williston Road) south of Gainesville and her vehicle ran off the roadway and collided with a tree.

A 63-year-old Newberry woman died Monday morning when she was hit by an SUV turning onto State Road 121 (SW Williston Road) south of Gainesville and her vehicle ran off the roadway and collided with a tree.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) release, the Newberry woman was driving a sedan southbound on SW Williston Road at 7:33 a.m. when a 77-year-old Archer woman driving an SUV was turning left onto northbound SW Williston Road from SW 137th Avenue (County Road 346A) and collided with the sedan. The sedan traveled off SW Williston Road and collided with a tree.

Emergency responders transported the Newberry woman to UF Health Shands Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The Archer driver and a 52-year-old Archer man riding in the SUV sustained minor injuries. A 45-year-old Archer woman riding in the SUV was not injured.

The FHP Traffic Homicide Investigation Unit is investigating the collision. FHP was assisted by the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office and Alachua County Fire Rescue.
