The Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle accident yesterday afternoon in Suwannee County.
According to the FHP report, two Polaris Ranger UTV’s were westbound on 180th Street, west of 81st Road in Suwannee County. The first vehicle, driven by a 41-year-old man from Obrien, was towing a second vehicle, due to an unknown engine malfunction. While the second vehicle was in tow, a 5-year-old male passenger fell out of the passenger seat and struck the pavement.
The child was transported to Lake City Medical Center in critical condition, and was later pronounced deceased at the hospital. Next of Kin for the deceased has been notified.
180th Street is now open.
The FHP did not release the names of the driver or passengers in the incident.
