The officers requested assistance from the Lake City Fire Department for the potential presence of hazardous chemicals. The officers also evacuated the residents at 759 NE Jackson Avenue as a precaution until the source of the chemicals inside the plastic soda bottles could be determined.

The investigation revealed Mixon had mixed two chemical compounds inside the bottles, shaken them and then thrown them into the neighboring yard to observe the explosions.

Mixon is being held without bail at the Columbia County Detention Center.
