
The Florida Highway Patrol responded to a fatal crash in the early morning hours on NE 28th Lane in Marion County.
According to the FHP report, a sport utility vehicle, driven by a 22-year-old man from Ocala, was traveling eastbound on NE 28th Lane, which terminates at a guardrail.
The driver of the SUV failed to slow or stop for the guardrail, causing the front of the vehicle to collide with the guardrail face. According to the report, the SUV began to rotate and overturn, causing the front right fender/hood to collide with a standing palm tree.
The vehicle continued its rotation, causing the rear right roofline to collide with a smaller standing tree, and finally coming to rest on its left side, facing south.
The driver was ejected during the overturning/rotating event, coming to rest in a body of water to the south of the SUV, and was pronounced deceased on the scene by Marion County Fore Rescue Lieutenant Dustin Lindsey at 12:39 AM.
The FHP did not release the name of the driver.
