
A Lake Butler man died Monday night when he was rear-ended by a driver who fled the accident scene on foot.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) report, a 31-year-old Callahan man was driving southbound on State Road 121 north of State Road 100 in Lake Butler around 10:30 p.m. when he failed to slow for traffic and collided with a 35-year-old Lake Butler man’s vehicle.
The Callahan man’s vehicle traveled through the SR 121 and SR 100 intersection and stopped facing south on the east shoulder of SR 121 while the Lake Butler man’s vehicle rotated and stopped at the south end of the intersection facing north.
According to FHP, the Callahan man driving the first vehicle fled the scene on foot before law enforcement arrived. An investigation is ongoing to determine the positive identification of the man who caused the accident.
