Gainesville man dies in I-75 collision with semi

A 27-year-old Gainesville man died Sunday afternoon when his vehicle veered off Interstate 75 north of Ocala and collided with a tractor-trailer parked on the shoulder.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) release, the Gainesville man was driving a sedan south on I-75 nearly mile marker 359 at 4:05 p.m. when, for reasons still under investigation, he traveled onto the outside emergency shoulder and crashed into the rear of a tractor-trailer.

Marion County Fire Rescue responders pronounced the Gainesville man dead on scene.

The 63-year-old Clearwater man driving the tractor-trailer was not injured.
