Gainesville man dies when vehicle collides with tree in Newberry

A 45-year-old Gainesville man died Friday night when his vehicle veered off NW 4th Avenue and collided with a tree in Newberry.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) release, the man was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Camaro east on NW 4th Avenue near NW 251st Street at 10:25 p.m. when he veered right, crossed onto the south shoulder of the road and collided head-on with a large tree.

Emergency responders transported the driver to UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville where he was pronounced dead. He was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt.
