Gainesville Fire Rescue extinguishes commercial building blaze

Gainesville Fire Rescue (GFR) firefighters extinguished a Tuesday morning blaze at a commercial building located at SE 4th Street and SE 8th Place.

According to a GFR release, GFR stations one, two and three responded to the 4:44 a.m. fire and discovered half the building ablaze. Crews held the fire in place and extinguished it, keeping the flames to the side of the building where it originated.

No one was injured in the fire and the GFR is investigating the cause of the blaze.

In the release, GFR Lieutenant Joey Gonzalez said this type of aggressive fire attack is “…what GFR trains for and why firefighters want to work for Gainesville Fire Rescue!”

GFR added it is looking to hire nine certified firefighters with an expected start date of Feb.10, 2025.
