Florida breaks single-day record for COVID-19 fatalities with 173

The Florida Department of Health reported 10,249 new cases to the Florida COVID-19 Dashboard, bringing the total positive test count to 389,868 cases as of the July 22nd report.

The FDOH also reported 56,744 new tests from Wednesday. The positive rate was 12.31% of the total, according to the report.

Here is a breakdown of the new coronavirus cases reported by the state for the past 10 days:

Statewide hospitalizations are at 22,644, an increase of 401. The state is now releasing numbers on currently hospitalized patients, and as of 11 am, there were 9,547 people hospitalized throughout the state with COVID-19 as their primary diagnosis.

5,518 people have died from the virus in Florida, an increase of 173 over the day before. This is the highest single-day total of fatalities reported since the pandemic began.

Alachua County is at 2,890 – up 81 from yesterday.
Gilchrist County is at 283 – up 6 from yesterday
Columbia County is at 1,792 – up 256 from yesterday.
Levy County is at 424 – up 10 from yesterday.
Bradford County is at 212 – up 7 from yesterday.

In Alachua County towns:

Alachua/LaCrosse/Worthington Springs 181 – up 9 from yesterday.
Archer 55 – up 2 from yesterday.
Hawthorne 36 – no change from yesterday.
High Springs 49 – up 2 from yesterday.
Micanopy 22 – up 1 from yesterday.
Newberry 131 – up 8 from yesterday.
Waldo 10 – no change from yesterday.
