Firefighters extinguished a fully involved blaze at an abandoned home in the 4900 block of SW Archer Road on Monday afternoon.

According to an Alachua County Fire Rescue (ACFR) release, units from ACFR and Gainesville Fire Rescue responded to a residential fire in the 4900 block of SW Archer Road at 3 p.m.

The house was fully involved with the fire extending into the treetops when firefighters arrived. The house reportedly appeared abandoned and was nearly 75 feet into a heavily wooded lot. Crews used long hose lines to stop the fire and were assisted by the Florida Division of Forestry who plowed a fire line around the structure to ensure the blaze did not spread into the woods.
