A Monday morning fire destroyed the Flying Hawk hardware store in Old Town.

According to a Dixie County Fire Rescue (DCFR) release, crews were dispatched to the Flying Hawk during the early morning hours.

Firefighters arrived at 26287 SE Highway 19 and found the building heavy with fire and smoke and threatening nearby exposures.

Due to the heavy fire load within the building, along with the structural integrity of the walls already failing, the DCFR firefighters went into a defensive attack, according to the release.

Crews from Fanning Springs Fire Rescue (Tanker 77) and Gainesville Fire Rescue (Ladder 9) assisted the DCFR in extinguishing the blaze.

The Florida State Fire Marshall’s Office responded and will handle the origin and cause of the fire.
