
A 68-year-old Fanning Springs man died Tuesday morning when his vehicle collided with a tractor-trailer backing into Cash and Carry Pole Barns and Discount Lumber on US Highway 19 north of Chiefland.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) release, a 57-year-old Haleyville, Alabama man was driving a tractor-trailer facing east across the southbound lanes of US 19 attempting to back into the Cash and Carry Pole Barns lot to offload cargo at 6:50 a.m. The Fanning Springs man was traveling south on US 19 in the outside lane when he collided with the trailer.
Emergency responders pronounced the Fanning Springs man dead on scene.
Responders from the Florida Department of Transportation, the Levy County Department of Public Safety, Fanning Springs Fire Rescue and Chiefland Fire Rescue assisted on-scene.
