Fanning Springs man dies in collision with semi in Levy County

A 68-year-old Fanning Springs man died Tuesday morning when his vehicle collided with a tractor-trailer backing into Cash and Carry Pole Barns and Discount Lumber on US Highway 19 north of Chiefland.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) release, a 57-year-old Haleyville, Alabama man was driving a tractor-trailer facing east across the southbound lanes of US 19 attempting to back into the Cash and Carry Pole Barns lot to offload cargo at 6:50 a.m. The Fanning Springs man was traveling south on US 19 in the outside lane when he collided with the trailer.

Emergency responders pronounced the Fanning Springs man dead on scene.
