Dixie County collision kills 1 Old Town man, seriously injures 2

A 59-year-old Old Town man died and two other Old Town people were seriously injured in a Thursday afternoon collision north of Cross City on NE Highway 349.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol (release), a 63-year-old Old Town woman was driving a Jeep north on NE Highway 349 at 5:40 p.m. when an unknown vehicle traveling south on NE Highway 349 made a left turn and entered the northbound lane directly in front of the Jeep.

The woman driving the Jeep veered left to avoid the unknown vehicle directly into the path of a 59-year-old Old Town man driving a pickup that was following the unknown vehicle and the Jeep and pickup collided head-on.

Emergency responders transported the pickup driver, jeep driver and a 56-year-old Old Town man who was riding in the jeep to a hospital. The pickup driver was pronounced dead and the two jeep occupants are in serious condition.

According to the FHP release, none of the three people were wearing seatbelts.
