Cross Point Church of God and the Colliers GNV Commercial Advisory Team announced last week that Cross Point has purchased a location from the Presbytery of St. Augustine. 

The location, at 1001 NE 16th Ave. in Gainesville, includes a church building of about 14,088 square feet. 

“The strategic move into the established church building at 1001 NE 16th Ave. not only awakens a landmark on the Northeast side of Gainesville, but it also offers opportunities for our congregation to give back to a community where many of our congregants reside,” Cross Point pastor Jason Garner said in a press release. “We are looking forward to being part of a greater plan for generations to come.” 

The building was constructed in 1960 and expanded in 1995, and formerly was home to Highlands Presbyterian Community Church. 

Cross Point Church of God, formerly Westwood Hills Church of God, is moving from 1520 NW 34th St., a location it bought in the mid-1960s. 

The building at the corner of 34^th and 16th also became home to a Christian school and daycare. 

In November 1991, the church lost its entire structure to arson, but erected a new building, the current structure, which was sold recently to become The Frazer School that is set to open in the fall. 

Cross Point has about 130 members, who chose to sell and move to a new location for a “foothold in a vibrant community ripe for outreach ministries,” according to a press release. 

Love N Care Preschool will move with Cross Point to the new location, and renovations are currently underway, with a first phase focused on relocating the preschool by the end of June. 

Services at the new location are set to begin in the fall. Until then, worship continues at 1520 NW 34th St., Sundays at 10 a.m. and Wednesdays at 7 p.m. 

“We are pleased to have worked with Colliers and facilitated this transaction, knowing that the legacy of our property will continue to serve the community under Cross Point Church of God’s stewardship,” the Presbytery of St. Augustine stated in a press release.
