Columbia County crash kills Lake City man, injures 3

A 25-year-old Lake City man died and three passengers were injured on Saturday night when the pickup they were in left NE Gum Swamp Road in Columbia County and collided with a utility pole.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) release, the Lake City man was driving a 2003 Toyota Tundra east on County Road 250 (NE Gum Swamp Road) near NE Thomas Camp Road at 10:10 p.m. when the pickup traveled off the roadway. The driver attempted to correct the pickup’s direction but oversteered, collided with a utility pole and the pickup overturned.

Emergency responders pronounced the driver, who was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt, dead on scene.

Three juvenile passengers in the pickup were transported to UF Shands Hospital in Gainesville for further treatment.
