Two men died when their vehicle failed to stop and pulled out in front of a pickup pulling a boat on State Road 26 west of Trenton on Saturday afternoon.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) release, a 43-year-old Fanning Springs man driving a sedan south on County Road 307 failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of SR 26 at 4:25 p.m. The sedan pulled out in front of a pickup towing a boat driven by a 35-year-old Chiefland man going east on SR 26.
The pickup struck the sedan on the passenger side and the sedan spun counterclockwise and left the road onto the south shoulder while the pickup rotated clockwise, and the force of the collision caused the boat trailer to detach.
The sedan driver and a male passenger, of unknown age or town of origin, were not wearing seatbelts and were both killed in the collision.
The pickup driver, along with three people riding in the pickup – a 32-year-old Chiefland woman, a 34-year-old Fort White man and a 4-year-old Chiefland boy – received minor injuries.
