Branford man dies after truck hits culvert

A Branford man died early Saturday morning after his truck struck a culvert and overturned.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) press release, the single-vehicle incident occurred shortly before 3 a.m. Saturday. The driver, a 55-year-old man, was driving west on U.S. 27 headed toward the town of Mayo in Lafayette County.

Near U.S. 27 and NE Howard A. Hamlin Lane, the truck left the roadway and entered the north shoulder. The truck then hit a culvert and overturned, ejecting the man, who was not wearing a seatbelt.

First responders pronounced the man deceased on the scene.

FHP is still investigating the cause of the crash.
