Head-on crash kills Bell man, injures 5 Gainesville people on State Road 121

A 26-year-old Bell man died and five Gainesville people were injured in a head-on collision on Saturday afternoon north of Gainesville on State Road 121 in Alachua County.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) release, the Bell man was driving a pickup and a 21-year-old Gainesville man was driving a van when the vehicles – going in opposite directions on SR 121 near NW 144th Avenue at 1:05 p.m. – collided head-on.

Emergency responders pronounced the Bell man dead on scene and transported the five Gainesville people in the van to UF Health Shands Hospital.

The Gainesville driver was reportedly in critical condition and the four female passengers (no ages given) were all listed in serious condition.

SR 121 was closed for several hours on Saturday as FHP conducted the investigation.
