The U.S. Election Assistance Commission appointed Aug. 1 as National Poll Worker Recruitment Day.

According to an Alachua County Supervisor of Elections Office press release sent Thursday, poll workers are essential to administering elections. Workers help polling places open, set up and close while ensuring only qualified voters are allowed to vote.

The Alachua County Supervisor of Elections Office is currently recruiting election workers for the 2024 general election that will take place on Nov. 5.
