Alachua County Public Schools has released an updated map for its proposed elementary school rezoning. High school and middle school maps remain the same as before.
The district has been undergoing a comprehensive rezoning process since April. The public hearing for the proposed maps is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Nov. 14, and the school board has asked for the second reading to be delayed as long as possible to Jan. 15.
Staff can continue to receive citizen input, even after the public hearing, as the maps would only become final after the second reading.
The most recent changes to the elementary school map include:
- The Rock Creek Subdivision has been moved from Littlewood zoning to Glen Springs
- A Gainesville area to the north and east of Highway 441 (including Whitney Mobile Home Park) that was slated to change from Talbot to Foster is now zoned to remain with Talbot
- An area north of 39th Ave. (Summer Creek, Greystone) has been zoned back to Meadowbrook. Huntington is not included in this change.
- The area south of NW 23rd Ave., north of Newberry Rd. and west of NW 51st St., including but not limited to Kingswood, Boardwalk, West Park, West Hills, Park Avenue, Blakemeade, Pinewoods, Campo Verde, University Acres, Shenandoah: this area is currently zoned to Meadowbrook or Terwilliger and was slated to move to Littlewood or Glen Springs, but will now remain in or be assigned to Meadowbrook.
- The area south of SW 8th Avenue (Cobblefield) with access to Chiles will remain at Chiles.
