Alachua County Fire Rescue (ACFR) recently added new Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) equipment and Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) bags to help advance firefighter efficiency and safety.

According to an ACFR release, the new SCBA equipment was acquired using grant funding and Alachua County tax dollars and features lightweight materials to reduce fatigue along with improved communication systems. The new SCBAs will replace the equipment that has been in service for the last 10 years and has met its operational life span.

The new RIT bags are designed to expedite rescue operations for downed firefighters and are a dedicated air supply with quick-connect fittings that will enable rapid deployment during emergencies.
