The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) arrested one of its own on Friday. Detectives arrested officer Edwaldo Santos on two counts of aggravated assault, according to a department press release.
“No one is above the law, not even our own employees,” said Alachua County Sheriff Clovis Watson Jr. “If you break the law, you are going to be held accountable.”
Santos, 57, started as a detention officer a year ago and had been suspended since Jan. 8, while the office of professional standards conducted an investigation, according to the ACSO. The investigation produced criminal allegations, which led to the criminal investigations division taking over the probe.
The department press release said the alleged incidents did not occur at the jail or while Santos was on the job.
