Alachua County Fire Rescue (ACFR) used the Jaws of Life to free a person injured in an I-75 crash early Thursday morning.

According to an ACFR press release, the accident occurred around 5 a.m. Both ACFR and Gainesville Fire Rescue responded to the scene, which included two vehicles near mile marker 386 on southbound I-75.

“First units to arrive on scene advised that they had a two vehicle accident, off the roadway, with heavy damage,” the ACFR report said. “Units confirmed the need of one victim needing to be extricated from one of the vehicles.”

Crews safely extricated the person, who suffered only minor injuries, in less than 20 minutes, ACFR reported.

The report did not specify the ages, genders or hometowns of the people involved in the crash. It also did not identify a potential cause, but it issued a reminder “to not text and drive and always wear your seatbelt.”

Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash, according to ACFR, but did not immediately release any information about the incident.
