
Firefighters rescued two cats and a guinea pig at a residential structure on Thursday night in Waldo.
According to an Alachua County Fire Rescue (ACFR) release, crews from ACFR and the Melrose Fire Department were dispatched at 7:35 p.m. to a single-family home.
When crews arrived, the home was 40% involved and, after four minutes of an aggressive attack, firefighters were able to get the blaze under control.
When the fire was extinguished, two kittens and a guinea pig were saved from structure. Unfortunately, three birds perished in the blaze. There were no injuries reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
