1 dead, 2 seriously injured in 3-vehicle collision in Columbia County

A 35-year-old Lake City man died after he crashed into two oncoming vehicles, seriously injuring both drivers, on County Road 245 south of Lake City on Monday morning.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) release, the 35-year-old Lake City man was driving a pickup truck southbound on CR 245 near SE Robert Cox Terrace at 6:50 a.m. and failed to negotiate right curve when his pickup traveled into the northbound lanes and struck two vehicles.

The pickup hit a sedan driven by a 37-year-old Lake Butler man and a pickup truck driven by a 64-year-old Lake City man. The southbound pickup struck the sedan’s left side, causing it to travel into the east ditch of CR 245, and then struck the other pickup’s left front.

Emergency responders pronounced the 35-year-old Lake City man dead on scene. He was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt.

The 37-year-old Lake Butler sedan driver, also reportedly not wearing a seatbelt, and the 64-year-old Lake City pickup driver, were transported to a local hospital in serious condition.
