The Alachua Conservation Trust (ACT) and the Florida Trail Association (FTA) will host a Trail Accessibility Event at Prairie Creek Lodge on Saturday.
The event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 7204 County Road 234 in Gainesville and will highlight trail accessibility devices and organizations working to make North Central Florida’s natural spaces more inclusive.
Attendees will have the chance to try two specialized all-terrain devices designed for individuals with mobility challenges:
- ACT’s EcoRover Chair: A joystick-controlled mobility device funded by the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation, capable of navigating sand, gravel, dirt, mud, and more.
- FTA’s Joelette Chair: A single-wheel, all-terrain wheelchair designed for guided hiking with assistance from two or more people.
Both devices will be available for guided trail rides during the event. Registration is strongly encouraged to reserve a timeslot, though day-of sign-ups will be accommodated as availability allows.
Accessible restrooms will be on-site, and additional event details, including registration information and future accessibility initiatives, can be found at www.AlachuaConservationTrust.org.
