Genealogist Tatanya Peterson and Karen Kirkman will lead the course.
Peterson will share how she traced her family line back to Grace and Hampton Hathcock, her four-time great-grandparents, who were slaves on the James Chestnut plantation near Alachua. She will discuss the discoveries she made in her research.
Kirkman is a volunteer transcriber and will talk about how to access and query the Alachua County Ancient Records online and what can be discovered there. She is the president and historian of the Historic Haile Homestead Inc. and has spent nearly 20 years researching the enslaved people on the Haile and Chestnut plantations in Alachua County. Kirkman is also a member of the Alachua County Historical Commission.
