Tom Petty Park improvements groundbreaking ceremony on tap for Friday

The city of Gainesville’s Wild Spaces & Public Places Department and the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department will host a groundbreaking ceremony at Tom Petty Park on Friday.

The city of Gainesville’s Wild Spaces & Public Places Department and the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department will host a groundbreaking ceremony at Tom Petty Park on Friday, April 4.

The event will start at 10 a.m. at 501 NE 16th Ave., just west of the tennis courts, and will celebrate upcoming improvements to the park, including adding eight dedicated pickleball courts, new seating areas, parking lot lights and a pedestrian entrance from the NE 16th Avenue crosswalk.

The project will also re-route the existing multi-purpose trail to enhance ADA accessibility, renovate and enlarge the restrooms, and improve landscaping and stormwater management on-site.

Tom Petty Was A Awesome Song/Poem Writer. However, Take A Lesson In Naming Grounds After The Deceased. Every Person Is Not Squeeky Clean In The Way They Conducted Their Lives. So Many Buildings and Grounds Are Named After People Who May or May Not Have Been A Liar, Cheater, Thief. Or Worse. Maybe Even A Kidnapper or Murderer. Rest Assure I am not Speaking Personally About Awesome Singer/ Song Writer Tom Petty. Love Tom Petty and His Music. You Place a Deceased Person’s Name Over a Building or Grounds, Such As A National Park and That Individual Committed Evil Doings. The Ground turns Stoney. Sour. Cursed. Haunted. This Why Grave Yards Are Said To Be Haunted. Everyone Buried in a Graveyard is not Innocent of Wrong Doings. Just Food For Thought. Hat’s Off to Tom Petty 💕
