Suwannee Valley Unsolved, Inc. (SVU) will host a cold case event highlighting the 2008 murder of Bell resident Archie Monroe “Junior” Kelly on Monday, March 31.
The cold case awareness and education event is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Gilchrist County Public Library at 105 NE 11th Ave. in Trenton. The event is free to the public.
SVU Executive Director Jason Futch will bring attention to the local unsolved homicide while highlighting his organization’s work.
The homicide took place on Nov. 19, 2008, when Kelly was murdered in his home in Bell. Kelly was the victim of multiple break-ins and home invasions the year leading up to his death and, despite ongoing investigations by the Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) in collaboration with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), the case remains unsolved.
To encourage new leads, GCSO is offering a $15,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of those responsible for Kelly’s death.
During the SVU event, additional details about the case will be provided while honoring Kelly’s life. Kelly is remembered as a dedicated farmer and respected member of the community and left a lasting impact on those who knew him. Family and friends continue to seek justice on his behalf.
Due to anticipated attendance, seating at the event is limited and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Reserved seating will be provided at the front for Kelly’s surviving family members and law enforcement officials.
