The United Way North Central Florida (UWNCFL) recently awarded a $40,000 grant to Partnership for Strong Families (PSF) to enhance essential emergency assistance programs in rural communities across the region.
The funds are earmarked to support the Tri-County Community Resource Center in Chiefland and the Alachua County Community Resource Navigators as part of PSF’s Rural Emergency Assistance Program. The programs are designed to alleviate crises faced by ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) households.
The Rural Emergency Assistance Program offers support, such as employment-related childcare, rent, utility and internet assistance, and other urgent needs, to help ALICE households and prevent further personal and financial distress. These targeted resources will strengthen PSF’s capacity to assist families in Alachua, Dixie, Gilchrist and Levy counties.
“United Way North Central Florida is committed to helping households in our region not just survive, but thrive,” said Amber Miller, president and CEO of United Way North Central Florida, in a press release sent Tuesday. “ALICE families are the backbone of our communities, yet they are often one unexpected event away from crisis. Through this investment in Partnership for Strong Families, we are reinforcing real, immediate solutions that will make a lasting difference for families in need.”
The grant is projected to have a significant impact in regions where access to support services is limited due to economic and geographic factors. With UWNCFL focusing on ALICE households, this initiative will ensure that those who are working hard to make ends meet receive the necessary support to overcome immediate challenges and build a more financially secure future.
Community support and engagement are vital for the success of these initiatives. UWNCFL invites local residents, organizations and businesses to contribute to its mission by donating, volunteering or advocating for the needs of ALICE households. Together, these collective efforts will strengthen the fabric of the community and contribute to a more resilient society.
