With construction nearly complete, Kiwanis Challenge Park in Gainesville is now open to the public.

According to the city of Gainesville’s Wild Spaces & Public Places Department and the Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs, the Kiwanis Challenge Park, located at 2002 NW 36th Ave., has multiple new features.

Work completed at the park included removing the asphalt walkways, a concrete long jump course, and a shot put cage while resurfacing the track and installing concrete pads to accommodate two ADA-compliant picnic tables and six benches.

The striping of the track will occur in around 30 days as the resurfaced asphalt cures. Also, picnic tables and benches will be placed in the park over the next few days.

AKEA Inc. completed the work for its $246,000 bid. The project was funded by the Wild Spaces & Public Places half-cent sales tax.
