The Alachua County Community Remembrance Project (ACCRP) will hold a Historical Marker Dedication Ceremony on Saturday in Gainesville’s Monteocha Park.

The free event will start at noon and the park is located at 803 NW 192nd Ave.

ACCRP, in partnership with the Equal Justice Initiative (EJI) of Montgomery, Alabama, is dedicating the marker to honor the legacy of activist Moses Smith. Smith advocated for Black voting rights and lost his life to racial violence on Nov. 1, 1868, before an election.
