
The Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Delta Sigma Zeta Chapter in Gainesville recently named Yvonne Hayes Hinson and Cassandra Davis the recipients of the 2025 Violette N. Anderson Award.
According to Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, the contributions of Hinson and Davis have shown exceptional leadership and advocacy in Alachua County. The award was presented at a ceremony where the two were recognized for their pioneering efforts in their respective fields.
The Violette N. Anderson Award is named in honor of Violette N. Anderson, the first African American female attorney admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court and the eighth national president of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. The award serves to honor women who have made a significant impact in social justice, civic and legal matters and civil rights.
Hinson, a former educator, is a current member of the Florida House of Representatives (District 21). She was celebrated for her work advocating community empowerment, social justice and educational equity. As a community activist, Hinson continues to shape the future of Alachua County through her leadership and commitment to equity.
Davis, a retired banker and youth advocate, was recognized for her outstanding service advocating financial literacy and empowering youth. She has devoted much of her career to community activism, providing support and mentorship to the next generation and ensuring they have the tools and opportunities to thrive.
