
The Greater Gainesville International Center (GGIC) will host its official launch event Saturday in downtown Gainesville.
The event will be held from noon to 5 p.m. atn SW 2nd Street and University Avenue between How Bazar and The Streetery.
The festival will have food, music, dancing, and art. Eight chefs will prepare food from cuisines such as West Africa, the Caribbean, Greece, China, and Ethiopia.
“We are excited to bring our community together to share our histories, cultures, lived experiences and hopes,” said GGIC President and CEO Lauren Poe a press release.
The GGIC is a nonprofit whose goal is to bring together Gainesville and the surrounding areas’ growing international community.
There will be a story-telling workshop titled, “In Our Voices: Stories of Immigration, Integration and Belonging.” The workshop will take places from 12:30-2 p.m. inside How Bazar (60 SW 2nd St.)
The event is free, but a food passport is available for purchase. The food passport will allow guests to eat two samples from each chef at the festival.
