The Gainesville Woman’s Club (GWC) will host an open house and reception on Sunday, Sept. 15.
The event will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. at the GWC Clubhouse (2809 W. University Ave.).
The community is invited to join the 205 GWC members, donors, community partners and event sponsors at the open house.
The GWC has dedicated its work to scientific, educational, charitable purposes and civic engagement since 1903. The open house will highlight the various programs supported with funds raised through its Bodacious Handbag Bingo, Spring Fashion Show, Festival of Trees, Rummage Sale and with gifts of volunteer hours and materials.
Organizations that receive financial support from the GWC include Guardian Angel Medical Service Dogs, Camp Crystal, Peaceful Paths, Caring & Sharing School, Altrusa House, Guardian Ad Litem, Girls Place, Star Theatre and Boy Scouts.
It may be time to move away from “traditional, self-centered ” women’s topics like fashion and homemaking and focus on climate change at home (sell handheld digital thermometers), providing respite for families of handicapped children (Builders United for handicapped families Golf Tournament) or Everyone Can Foster (quarterly Foster Kid activity weekends).
