Education and innovation programs, such as veterinary medicine, artificial intelligence, STEM, biomedical and college preparatory tours will also be available.

Summer Blitz, presented by the city of Gainesville, also receives support from the Children’s Trust of Alachua County (CTAC) and Alachua County Public Schools (ACPS). These partnerships widen the scope of opportunities that include summer jobs and camp counselor positions provided through the TeensWork Alachua Summer Youth Program, funded by CTAC.

“This is an event that’s open to all young people in our community,” said city of Gainesville Government Affairs and Community Relations Director John Alexander in a press release. “We want to make sure every student has a productive and rewarding summer. By attending this event, families can see what’s available and find out how to register for camps and programs that provide a safe and engaging environment.”

Studies indicate that high-quality summer programs can effectively reduce risky behaviors, mitigate learning loss and narrow opportunity and educational gaps. These are among the goals the city of Gainesville leaders had in mind when creating the Summer Blitz event.

“Providing opportunities for our youth to learn, grow and thrive is a priority for the City of Gainesville,” said City Manager Cynthia Curry in a press release. “By offering access to enriching summer programs, we are investing in our future leaders and ensuring that families in our community have the support they need.”

The event will feature free food, music, games and giveaways while allowing young people and their families to interact with program organizers and find what fits them for their summer experience.
