First United Methodist Church will perform Sam Shovel, Private Eye in “Tailor Made…for Murder” on Thursday through Sunday.
The play, free to the public with all donations going to Family Promise of Gainesville, is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Thursday through Saturday, Aug. 15-16 and 3 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 18 at 419 NE 1st St.
The main character, Sam Shovel, finds a dead man in her office on a steaming day in the city. The weapon appeared to be a yardstick as it was impaled into his back. As it turns out, this is the first of many slayings in the fashion industry. Sam is a private eye looking for the tying thread to stitch up this case in this 1940s-era detective parody.
Included in the presentation are four comical commercials for 1940s products.
