Camp Safe Haven will return to Cuscowilla Nature and Retreat Center on Saturday, April 5, to offer a grief support day camp for children and their families.

The free event, hosted by Haven Hospice, will run from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 210 SE 134th Ave. in Micanopy.

The camp is designed for children and youth ages 5-18 who have experienced the loss of a loved one. Camp Safe Haven provides therapeutic activities that help participants develop coping skills to process their emotions.

Mainstreet does not have a paywall, but pavement-pounding journalism is not free. Join your neighbors who make this vital work possible.

Activities include nature walks, grief art projects, drumming circles, therapeutic music and dance, a memorial ceremony and more.

Camp Safe Haven uses a three-step approach: encouraging participants to acknowledge their emotions, empowering them to manage their grief, and enlightening them to understand that grieving is a natural process. A caregiver must accompany all participants.
