
Gainesville Veterans for Peace (VFP) Chapter 14 recently announced its 11th annual Peace Scholarship Program for spring 2025.
Community support from the Winter Solstice Concert and other donations will allow VFP to award three $1,500 college scholarships to high school seniors, college students or adults who demonstrate a commitment to social justice.
The deadline for applying is Friday, April 25, and the completed applications must be submitted by email to vfppeacepoetrycontest@gmail.com.
VFP established this scholarship to support Alachua County students who are dedicated to building a more just and equitable world. Multiple past recipients have been first-generation college students or community college students. The scholarship is open to residents of Alachua County who are high school seniors, current college or vocational students, or adults enrolling in higher education.
Applicants must submit a personal statement, evidence of leadership or initiative in social justice work and two letters of recommendation.
Scholarship recipients must be actively engaged in one or more social justice efforts, including but not limited to peace and nonviolence, intersectional coalition building, Black Lives Matter, women’s reproductive freedom, environmental sustainability, economic justice, education and social change.
